Dennis Select Board advances three-override fiscal 2027 budgets for May town meeting. Town Administrator Elizabeth Sullivan reported a structural deficit of approximately $768,454 after adjustments, driven by inflation, collective bargaining, rising health insurance, and school assessments exceeding the town's 2.5 percent budgeting cap. The board unanimously approved Article 4 (operating budget, $51,266,780) and Article 5 (general fund override, $1,707,803), plus school assessments totaling $24.2 million: Dennis-Yarmouth Regional at $22,026,895 plus a $348,050 override, and Cape Cod Technical at $2,175,235 plus a $44,147 override.
Capital projects approved included $710,500 for Public Works and Fire vehicle replacement, $606,540 for a brush grinder, and $414,500 for electric golf cart infrastructure. The board also reappointed 28 committee members, appointed Julie McCarthy to the Housing Authority tenant seat, and excluded Article 44 (marijuana excise tax) from the warrant after member objections.
